MIND FOOD

I have been hard-pressed to ever think, of a time that I am never without a book, by my side, or on me wherever I am going.  Basically, I won’t leave the house without a book or some form of reading material, be it a magazine or my beloved books.

I just adore reading.  This year I set myself a challenge of reading a book a week and thus far I have kept to that.  Whatever, I am reading currently I get super excited for what is coming next.  I called this weeks Blog MIND FOOD, because just as obviously we need food for our whole being, we need food and nourishment for the brain.  One of those ways for me personally is with reading books of interest, ones that challenge my mind and ask questions that delve deep into my psyche. This stimulates and feeds my soul on every level.

As a young girl, one of my favorite places to be was my local library growing up.  I was always there.  I love the silence, the smell, the stillness and the feeling a library evokes in me.  Still, to this day whatever new country and place I have visited and I really have visited many places over the years, I will always seek out their local library.  If you really think about it how many places are there right now that you could think of that you can enter and not be allowed to have the constant yapping, swiping and engagement on a phone disturbing the general public.  Not many. I was also the kid with a book and a dictionary by me, and every single word I did not understand I would look it up and write it down in a notebook, Hey we all have our quirks, He He.  I still do that today and I am 49 years old.

Peace and quiet are essential for our sanity and I really feel many people are lacking this.  I personally love to read with no noise at all no Tv, no music nothing just the silence and absorption of an interesting book.

Continuing, on with our theme of 7 DAYS OF, my tip of the week would be if you are not already an avid reader, just give yourself the 7 days of principle.  Pick up a book you have been meaning or wanting to read for a long time, and just see if you can finish it off by the end of the week.  Now, let us be realistic, I am not urging you to read something like War and Peace or Dostoevsky if you are unfamiliar with reading but start small.  Pick up something that interests you with not so many pages. At least you’re starting and just check, in with yourself at the end of the week.

Books are many things, guides, entertainment, information, connection, humorous, the list is endless to what you are interested in.

Let me know if any of you have read any of these books and what a joy it would be to discuss them with you.  Anyone, interested in a book club I am definitely in.  Personally, there are not enough weeks in the year to read.  To me, I will never have read enough as life is just one huge school of constant learning, in more ways than one

I have hundreds of books and there was no particular reason I showcased this range of books, this week, as I love all my books.  Each and everyone, I have ever read has nurtured me, in one way or another, some more deeply than others, but that to me is the nature of reading.  We are here to learn and evolve and reading does that for me.  I enjoy something that allows me to go away and form my own conclusions and ask my own questions.

Ask, yourself what are some of the books you have read that stir that in you.  Many things in life can do that to us as well, a certain song perhaps,  the sunrise or sunset, smells, being in nature, falling in love.    When was the last time you allowed yourself to be present from distractions, your phone, texting the tv and just sat still with a book or just your thoughts in silence? 

This is one of the main reasons I love to read is the simple presence of being just me with my book.  Still and silent with no distractions or noise.

The reason, I photographed the jar of Brain Dust by Moon Juice is that I am a great believer in Adaptogens.  Gotta, keep that mind fresh, healthy and ticking over.  I have been taking Adaptogens for years in one form or another and truly understand their power and how they enhance my life daily.
